Kate_prevention_blogKate Adamson, survivor of a massive double brainstem stroke at the age of 33, will be the special guest this week on “America’s Lifeline”, the weekly one hour radio show of the Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation which will air Saturday, May 17 at 3 p.m. EDT, originating from the Tampa studios for Talk Radio 860 WGUL.

America’s Lifeline is also streamed worldwide via the Internet at http://860wgul.townhall.com/   For those outside the Tampa area, log onto www.terrisfight.org  and click on the “listen live” button.

Adamson gained national and international attention during the weeks preceding the starvation and dehydration death of Terri Schiavo. As an outspoken advocate of saving Terri from the horrible pain of being without food and water, Kate is one of a very small number of living and functioning people that can testify to the pain involved in that type of ‘treatment’.

In 1995, her stroke completely paralyzed her and left her unable even to blink her eyes. Like Terri Schiavo, Kate’s most basic care of food and water was removed. She too was diagnosed as being in a persistent vegetative state, but after going eight days without food or water, her feeding tube was restored due to the intervention of her husband. Although denial of food and water is often described by doctors and nurses as a humane way to die, Kate now speaks internationally letting people know that the removal of the feeding tube was “one of the most painful experiences you can imagine.” Kate continues, “I was just like Terri…but I was alive! I could hear every word. They were saying ’shall we just not treat her?’…I suffered excruciating misery in silence.”

“I heard the doctors and my husband talking about how very sick I was. I know what its like to be trapped inside a body unable to give your caretakers the sign they’re looking for to let them know that you’re still here – that you want to live!”  Kate declares. www.katesjourney.com
