MORIAH—The treasurer of the Moriah Ambulance Squad has been charged with stealing about $9,600 of the group’s monies.Rebecca A. Rodriguez, 37, of Wasson St., Witherbee, a squad member for about five years, was arrested after squad officials reported discrepancies in the squad’s checking account and an investigation was conducted by Moriah Town Police and the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

Police said that she allegedly cashed three checks totaling $9,600 which were drawn on the squad’s account and then altered the account ledger to try to conceal the withdrawals. She also allegedly forged the signature of another emergency squad member on the checks.
