DELAWARE COUNTY—A 44-year-old self-employed logger and stone cutter in Delaware County was arrested Friday for insurance fraud for accepting $20,000 in no-fault insurance benefits after claiming he was disabled and unable to work as the result of an automobile accident.
Shannon C. Moseman, of 45 Moseman Rd., East Meredith, is accused of accepting the benefits to cover alleged lost earnings, according to Mark S. Howard, an investigator with the state Insurance Department’s Frauds Bureau.
Howard said witnesses disputed Moseman’s claim that injuries from a Jan. 3 automobile accident left him totally disabled. Investigators also allege Moseman submitted false information on lost wage claims.
Moseman was released on $1,500 bail pending future court action following his arraignment in Delhi Village Court. He is being prosecuted by Delaware County District Attorney Richard Northrup, and if convicted, could be sentenced to seven years in prison.
New York State Police C Troop in Delaware County assisted in the arrest. 8-13-08
