SPCA Offers Reward For Tips On Animal Abuse Cases

Posted on Saturday, 6 of September , 2008 at 1:13 pm

In an effort to reduce the staggering number of animal cruelty cases and help law enforcement officials, SPCA International is expanding its Emergency Shelter program to include reward support for information leading to the arrest and conviction of persons involved in severe animal abuse and neglect cases.

Animal abuse and neglect reports appear in news outlets worldwide daily, but law enforcement officials often are left empty handed when more information is needed to convict the criminals involved. It is hoped this program will encourage people to come forward with tips that lead to the prosecution of animal abuse criminals. In the last two weeks alone the following animal cruelty headlines ran in newspapers across the United States.

- Animal cruelty cases on the rise in Philly (PA)
- Animal hoarding alleged – more than 100 animals (FL)
- Cat burning ‘quite rare’ (DE)
- Kitten thrown from moving vehicle (VA)
- Rabbit shot with blow-darts (IA)
- Cockfighting – over 100 birds seized (NC)
- Over 20 dogs found dead in field (NE)
- Alleged Horse Abuse in Polk County (TN)
- Cat shot to death (PA)
- Police seek information on neglected Sanbornton dog (NH)
- Watsonville slaughterhouse cited for animal abuse (CA)
- Another case of animal abuse (AL)
- Alleged animal abuse in Pontotoc County (OK)
- Woman charged with abuse of dogs after four dead (MI)
- ‘Deplorable’ animal abuse case results in arrest (CA)
- Police raid puppy mill (PA)
- Animals become victims of struggling economy (DE)
- Animal cruelty case a shame for county attorney’s office (KS)

SPCA International hopes the appeal of reward money will result in more convictions and ultimately help reduce the number of animal abuse cases worldwide. Learn more about the new Rewards addition to the Emergency Shelter program and how you can nominate a case for reward assistance.
