Melinda Doolittle, American Idol 6 contestant who finished in third place behind winner Jordin Sparks and runner up Blake Lewis, will be releasing her debut album, “Coming Back To You”, via Hi Fi Recordings in January.

The independent label was founded in 1995 and was originally a joint venture with Elektra, Arista and Virgin Records.

It’s described as “an R&B tour de force that combines the fiery electricity of Tina Turner’s early years with the slick production and lush instrumentation of today’s pop-soul renaissance.”

Produced by Grammy-nominated producer Mike Mangini (Joss Stone, Run DMC, The Jonas Brothers), “Coming Back to You” was recorded with a team of live musicians in Nashville and New York City.

The first single, “It’s Your Love” will be released to radio in October.

Last summer, Doolittle traveled to Africa with First Lady Laura Bush and Malaria No More to help distribute a half million bed nets. This May, she was the mistress of ceremonies for the 4th annual Ellie’s Run for Africa and helped raised funds to provide education and health-related assistance to Kenya and South Africa.

The former professional back-up singer from Brentwood, Tenn., has been on tour as part of Dreyer’s Slow-Churned Light Ice Cream American Idol Tour and last November, gave back to her alma mater by performing at the Belmont University’s annual “Christmas at Belmont” concert.   10-27-08
