Arraignment Set For Craigslist Harassment

Posted on Wednesday, 1 of July , 2009 at 7:07 pm

SUFFOLK COUNTY—A Hauppauge woman arrested in May for allegedly referring men answering a provocative Craigslist ad to a family she wanted revenge on will appear in Suffolk district court in Central Islip Thursday.

Suffolk District Attorney Thomas Spota said Margery Tannenbaum, 40, was arrested May 5.  She was charged with second degree aggravated harassment and given a desk appearance ticket to appear in district court on July 2.

D.A. Spota said when men replied to the online ad in February and March of this year, Tannenbaum “e-mailed the respondents the phone number of one of her daughter’s classmates, a 9-year old girl, prompting telephone calls to the girl’s home”.

“In explaining her actions to investigators, the defendant – who is a licensed clinical social worker – said she steered the calls to the child’s home because the girl had been verbally harassing her daughter for more than a year,” Spota said.  The district attorney said the men’s’ phone calls were intercepted by her mother who called police.

Tannenbaum will be arraigned by Judge Toni Bean in courtroom D-46.   7-1-09
