WESTPORT—A Brooklyn woman was killed Friday morning in a one-car accident on the Adirondack Northway near Westport when she was ejected from the vehicle.
Sofia Strijevsky, 53, was a middle row passenger in a 2001 Honda Odyssey minivan being operated by her husband Grigory Strijevsky, 55, also of Brooklyn.
Police said that the minivan was traveling northbound on Interstate 87 near mile marker 119 about 10:15 a.m. when it exited the west shoulder and overturned multiple times in the median.
Sofia Strijevsky was pronounced deceased at the scene by Essex County Coroner Robert Huestis who authorized removal from the scene to Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake for an autopsy.
A six-year-old female passenger was also ejected but suffered only minor injuries.
Grigory Strijevsky and passengers Marina Suleymanov, 30, Vera Zakurskaya, 59, and a six-year-old and three-year-old female, all from Brooklyn, were transported to Elizabethtown Community Hospital for initial treatment.
Suleymanov and Zakurskaya were air lifted to Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt., due to critical injuries.
The driver and two children were transported to Fletcher Allen Health Care by ambulance for precautionary treatment for the driver. Both children appeared to have only minor injuries, police said.
