BOLTON LANDING—It’s one of more bizarre crimes this year occurring in Warren County.
A Glens Falls man who approached a Bolton Landing residence by boat from Lake George and subsequently stole the property owner’s ATV is facing grand larceny charges for allegedly stealing both the ATV and boat.
Lt. C. Shawn Lamouree said the Warren County Sheriff’s Office was called to a residence on Lakeshore Drive in Bolton Landing Friday about 4:37 a.m. by a resident reporting the theft of an ATV.
Responding officers located the ATV travelling southbound on Lakeshore Drive. When they attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspect abandoned it in a driveway and fled on foot, Lamouree said. The officers pursued the suspect and he was taken into custody a short time later without incident.
It was later determined that the male was Joshua J. Straight, 24, of Baldwin Ave., Glens Falls and that he had not only stolen the ATV, but he had allegedly stolen the boat a short time earlier from a private dock approximately one mile north of the ATV’s location, Lamouree said.
Straight was charged with one count of third degree grand larceny, a class D felony for the larceny of the ATV, and one count of fourth degree grand larceny, a class E felony for the larceny of the boat. He was arraigned in Bolton Town Court and remanded to the custody of the Warren County Correctional Facility for lack of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond. He is due to return to the Bolton Town court on Oct. 28 at 3 pm.
During the investigation, officers stopped a vehicle driven by the 21-year-old girlfriend of Straight, Nicole T. Costin, also of Baldwin Ave. Lamouree said that it was determined that although she had no involvement in the larcenies, she was found to be in possession of several packets of heroin, pills, and marijuana.
Costin was charged with two counts of seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A nisdemeanor; and one count of unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. She was released on an appearance ticket to return to the Lake George Town Court on Nov. 5 at 9 a.m. 10-17-09
