Remains Identified As Missing Colorado Girl

Posted on Thursday, 29 of October , 2009 at 8:27 pm

SARATOGA COUNTY–The human remains found earlier this week in the town of Greenfield, Saratoga County, have been identified as those of Jennifer Hammond, a 18-year-old Colorado girl who went missing in August 2003.

On Monday, a hunter came across what appeared to be a partial human skull in a heavily wooded area. The State Police at Wilton were notified and responded along with the Forensic Identification Unit from Troop G Headquarters in Loudonville.

Hammond disappeared while she was selling magazine subscriptions in Saratoga County.  She had last been seen at the Creek and Pines Trailer Park in Ballston Spa.

According to the Parent Watch website, Hammond had planned to return to Colorado at the end of the summer.  She had purchased a bus ticket but the ticket wasn’t used and was in her belongings which had been left in an Albany hotel. She failed to appear at the designated pick up location with her employer Atlantic Circulation Inc.

The identification was announced Thursday afternoon at a press conference by James Murphy, Saratoga County district attorney.

Murphy said that dental records aided investigators in matching the teeth to Hammond.

Her family last heard from her in August 2003 and reported her missing in November 2003.  At the time of her disappearance, she was 5 feet, two inches in height and weighed 110 pounds.  She had light brown hair and hazel eyes.

Police said that the remains will still undergo DNA testing.  The case is being treated as a homicide.
