QUEENSBURY—A Queensbury man who fled the scene of a three-vehicle automobile accident early Wednesday morning which sent six people to the hospital is under arrest.

Police said that a 2004 Honda Civic sedan operated by Nicholas S. Hoffmeister, 22, of Queensbury, was traveling southbound on Big Bay Road about a quarter mile south of Corinth Road about 3:31 a.m. when it struck a 1994 GMC Sonoma pickup truck head on which was parked facing northbound partially in the southbound lane of travel.

A 2001 Chevrolet Tracker operated by Anthony C. Brozowski, 41, of Queensbury, was northbound and attempted to swerve to avoid the collision and struck the Honda after it had struck the pick up truck.

Police said Hoffmeister fled the scene, leaving three injured passengers in his vehicle, and was located nearly two hours later in the wooded area near Curtis Lumber.  He was subsequently arrested for misdemeanors of driving while intoxicated, aggravated unlicensed operation and leaving the scene of a personal injury motor vehicle accident.

Additional charges may be filed, police said.  Hoffmeister was released to appear at a later date.

Justin C. Long, 22, of Queensbury; Michelle D. DuRoss, 28, of Glens Falls and Jennifer L. Talbot, 28, of Queensbury were passengers in Hoffmeister’s vehicle.  Long suffered a head injury.  Talbot suffered broken ribs and internal injuries while DuRoss suffered a broken pelvis and internal injuries.

The pickup truck was occupied by Keith A. Blair, 53, and Elizabeth Carney, 25, both of Queensbury. They had stopped in front of Hayes Group Amusements and had loaded a discarded arcade style video game that was left on the side of the roadway.  Blair suffered a leg injury in the crash while Carney incurred a head laceration.

Brozowski suffered a facial injury.

All were transported to the Glens Falls Hospital by members of the West Glens Falls and Bay Ridge Rescue Squads.  DuRoss, who had been extricated from Hoffmeister’s vehicle by members of the West Glens Falls Fire Department, was later transported to the Albany Medical Center via ambulance.

Members of the Warren County Sheriff’s Traffic Safety Unit and Criminal Investigations Unit are handling the investigation.   11-11-09
