RENSSELAER COUNTY—A gambling network operating in the Capital District area has been shuttered with the arrest of two individuals.
John F. DuPont Jr., 44 of Magnolia Dr., Averill Park, and Peter M. Bukowski, 28, of Marsdale Court, Selkirk, have each been charged with first degree promoting gambling, possession of gambling records and fifth degree conspiracy.
The arrests followed a two month investigation by the New York State Police Special Investigations Unit (SIU) and Rensselaer County District Attorney’s office. Both were processed and released on an appearance ticket returnable on Nov. 16 in the Sand Lake Town Court.
Police said that during the course of the investigation, the two men took approximately 2,502 bets on a variety of professional sporting events. The illegal wagers from these bets alone totaled over $1 million, police said.
In addition to other evidence, over $34,000 in U.S. currency was seized. 11-12-09
