Humane Society Offers Reward In Beagle Case

Posted on Friday, 13 of November , 2009 at 11:19 am

SARATOGA COUNTY–After visiting The North Country Gazette website and reading about the beagle who was bound in duct tape, stuffed in a garbage bag and left in the Saratoga County woods for dead,  the Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible.

A 4-year old beagle named Daisy was found earlier this week, left for dead in a remote section of the woods off Drager Road in Providence. She was found by a hunter, who took her to a local veterinarian. The veterinarian said the dog lost about 20 pounds as a result of her ordeal. Identified by a microchip, Daisy has been reunited with her owners.

Getting the serious attention of law enforcement, prosecutors and the community in cases involving allegations of cruelty to animals is an essential step in protecting the community. The connection between animal cruelty and human violence is well documented, HSUS says. Studies show a correlation between animal cruelty and all manner of other crimes, from narcotics and firearms violations to battery and sexual assault.

“We hope our reward helps identify those responsible for this barbaric act so they can pay a price for their crime,” said Patrick Kwan, The HSUS’ New York state director. ”Animals deserve our protection and those who commit such egregious acts of animal abuse are at significant risk of becoming violent to people.”

The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office is investigating. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call 518-885-6761.

An anonymous donor has also offered a $10,000 reward in the case.

I’m so glad the beagle was reunited with the owners! That’s great to hear! Hopefully they will catch the person responsible for this, they need to be held accountable. Too much of this goes on!
