QUEENSBURY—A convicted Queensbury sex offender who is accused of assaulting a child has also been charged with failing to register his address.

Robert H. Bernard Jr., 28, of the John Burke Apartments on Burke Dr., was arrested Tuesday for second degree assault in addition to failing to register a change of address as a sex offender, both felonies.

Lt. C. Shawn Lamouree of the Warren County Sheriff’s Office said that on Sunday at about 7:30 a.m., Bernard was at his residence with family members.  During that time, he allegedly physically assaulted a five-year-old female causing an injury to the child’s face, consisting of bruising and swelling to the child’s eye and temple area.

In addition, Bernard is a registered level 2 sex offender and it was determined during the investigation he was living at 255B Burke Dr. in Queensbury. According to Bernard’s registration he was listed at a different address and failed to notify law enforcement of the change.

Bernard was arraigned at the Queensbury Town Court and remanded to the Warren County Correctional Facility in lieu of $20,000 cash bail.

The case was investigated by Investigators Edward Affinito and Maurice Aldrich of the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.   11-17-09
