LOUDONVILLE—Three Albany men are facing charges of heroin possession following a traffic stop Thursday night on I-90 in the City of Albany.
Lakya J. Perkins, 25; Lonnie I. Smith, 30 and Hector L. Acevedo, 31, were each charged with third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, for possessing heroin as well as unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.
Acevedo was addition charged with second degree assault and resisting arrest as the result of fleeing the scene and becoming involved in an altercation with one of the troopers.
State Police said that about 10:15 p.m., troopers assigned to the SP Loudonville Interstate Patrol stopped a vehicle on I-90 west in the City of Albany for vehicle and traffic violations. During the traffic stop it became apparent to the troopers that there were drugs in the vehicle.
Police said Acevedo fled on foot and was pursued across I-90. When the trooper caught up to the suspect, a brief struggle ensued and a burst of pepper spray was utilized with no effect. Acevedo continued to resist arrest and was eventually subdued, police said.
Acevedo complained that he was injured after being taken into custody and was transported to Albany Medical Center where he was treated and released back to State Police custody.
All three suspects were arraigned in the City of Albany court and remanded to the Albany County jail without bail. 11-20-09
