SARATOGA COUNTY—Rewards have topped $15,000 in the animal cruelty case of Daisy, the beagle who was found Nov. 8 emaciated and near death, wrapped in duct tape and left for dead in a garbage bag in a wooded area near a swamp in Providence.
Authorities have sent the duct tape and garage bag to a crime lab for testing including fingerprints and DNA evidence but won’t say if there are any suspects.
The four-year old beagle named Daisy is recuperating after she was found by Ed Dandaraw of Providence and his his two hunting companions, Tom Peters and Kevin McCauliffewhile he was hunting on his wooded property off Drager Road. The cruelly taped and bound beagle had been had been missing from home for three weeks.
The dog’s head, paws and body were wrapped in duct tape with only a slit the nostrils that allowed her to breathe.
Because of the difficult terrain, the men needed to use a four-wheeler to get the dog to safety. A former beagle owner himself, Dandaraw took the dog to his own veterinarian and was prepared to provide Daisy with a new home if her owners could not be located. Happily, the dog’s distraught family was quickly identified by a microchip and Daisy is back with her family, responding well to treatment and gaining weight steadily. The dog had lost about 20 pounds as a result of her ordeal.
Her owners live about five miles away from where Daisy was found.
The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department is in charge of the investigation of the crime, and persons with information are asked to contact the Department at (518) 885-6761.
