GREEENWICH—A Washington County hunter has been charged with felony reckless endangerment for firing his rifle in the vicinity of nearby occupied tree stands.
Shaune Sellingham, 43, of Argyle was also charged with third degree assault for throwing an open beer can at an individual, causing injury.
State Police said that at around dawn on Saturday, the opening morning of deer season, Sellingham used his .22 rifle to expend several rounds of ammunition while aware that there were tree stands erected on neighboring property located beyond his fixed target, well within the effective range of his weapon.
Police said at the time of the incident, two nearby tree stands were occupied by hunters who stated that they could hearSellingham yelling for them to “get out of here” as bullets passed through the trees above them. Sellingham later claimed that he’d been target shooting.
A few hours later, the hunters emerged from the woods and were allegedly confronted by Sellingham. An altercation ensued during which police said Sellingham threw an open beer can at the face of one of the men, causing a laceration below that subject’s left eye.
Sellingham was processed at SP Greenwich and arraigned before Argyle Town Justice Robert Buck, who released him on his own recognizance pending further court action. 11-23-09
