H1N1 Vaccination E-mail A Phishing Scam
Posted on Tuesday, 1 of December , 2009 at 9:16 pm
If you receive an email announcing the launching of a State Vaccination H1N1 Program and advising you that you need to create your personal H1N1 (swine flu) vaccination program on the website of the Centers for Disease Control, delete it.
It’s a scam.
The email was making its rounds Monday and carried links to download to create your “patient profile” which is actually a phishing attack and a Trojan horse program sent out by hackers.
The email reads, “You have received this e-mail because of the launching of State Vaccination H1N1 Program.
“You need to create your personal H1N1 (swine flu) Vaccination Profile on the cdc.gov website. The Vaccination is not obligatory, but every person that has reached the age of 18 has to have his personal Vaccination Profile on the cdc.gov site. This profile has to be created both for the vaccinated people and the not-vaccinated ones. This profile is used for the registering system of vaccinated and not-vaccinated people.
“Create your Personal H1N1 Vaccination Profile using the link: Create Personal Profile”.
Don’t click on.
Snopes.com confirmed on a posting on their website Monday that the email did not originate with the Centers for Disease Control and is a phishing scam. CDC does not send out unsolicited email, there is no requirement that individuals under the age of 18 register a “personal vaccination profile” with CDC. Snopes says the return email address is a non-existent domain of cdcdelivery.gov.
Phishing is the criminally fraudulent process of attempting to acquire sensitive information. 12-1-09
