SARATOGA SPRINGS---A veteran city firefighter is facing felony charges for biting a police officer who was trying to arrest him for harassment.
Wayne Lis, 51, himself a member of the city police force for three years in the 70's before becoming a firefighter in 1979, has been charged with felony second degree assault; resisting arrest, a misdemeanor and second degree harassment, a violation.
According to the statement filed with the court by O'Leary, the officer had stopped Lis in the city shortly after 1 a.m. for an alleged traffic infraction and let him go with a warning. He said that Lis did not appear intoxicated.
O"Leary said as he drove away, he noticed that Lis was following him so he pulled into a gas station parking lot. Lis pulled up next to him and began yelling obscenities at the officer, according to O'Leary, telling him that he'd "better stop harassing him".
When the officer tried to take Lis into custody for harassment, Lis allegedly resisted and bit the officer on the left hand.
Bail was set at $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond. The officer was treated and released at Saratoga Hospital.
In 2000, Lis had been ordered to undergo anger management after he was arrested for striking the manager of a deli shop in the head with a jar full of coins. 1-10-06
