LANSING, MICH---A man in court on a traffic charge now faces up to six years in prison for shaking hands with a prosecutor, a police officer and courtroom bailiff.
During a court appearance on Dec. 21, John Ridgeway, 41, took a vial of liquid from his pocket, rubbed the contents on his hands and shook hands with the three individuals.
Within an hour, all three became ill with two seeking hospital treatment.
Ridgeway has been arrested for assault. He says the vial only contained olive oil. The FBI is conducting tests on the liquid.
Ridgeway says the officials are out to get him because he took a traffic ticket to a jury trial and says he doubts if the officials were even sick. 1-13-06
