WHITE PLAINS----A conference to explore strategies for increasing services in the courts and the community to assist self-represented (pro se) litigants will be held May 11-12 at the New York State Judicial Institute at 84, North Broadway in White Plains.
The Eastern Regional Conference, Access to Justice for the Self Represented: Court and Community-Based Strategies and Solutions is being sponsored by the NYS Unified Court System, Delaware Judiciary, Superior Court of the District of Columbia, the Legal Services Corporation and the American Judicature Society.
Conference sessions will focus on best practices through partnerships, volunteers and technology to provide services in courthouses, bar associations, libraries and
community-based organizations. Additional topics will include the need for and benefits of providing services, fundamentals for getting started, cultural competency, courtroom management and ethical obligations.
Court administrators/staff, trial court judges, bar association leadership/staff, legal services providers, pro bono coordinators, librarians and self-help center staff are invited to attend.
