QUEENSBURY---A Queensbury man has pleaded guilty to posing as a FBI agent in order to kidnap a woman.
Michael T. DeBarbieri, 39, who has three previous felony convictions, was on trial for the Aug. 19 incident when he pleaded guilty to all of the charges against him.
According to a plea deal, DeBarbieri will be sentenced to five years in prison followed by five years of parole. At the time of the alleged kidnapping, DeBarbieri was on parole for a 1999 burglary conviction.
Police reports show that DeBarbieri stopped a car on Elm St., Glens Falls about 4 a.m. on Aug. 19 and told the woman operator that he was an FBI agent. He searched her, told her he was going to arrest her and then forced her to drive him around until she escaped.
He was charged with attempted second degree kidnapping, coercion, unlawful imprisonment and criminal impersonation.
After he was arrested, six other people told police that DeBarbieri had told them he was an FBI agent. 1-26-06
