Bloodmobile Driver Charged With Drunk Driving

JACKSONVILLE, FLA---A Jacksonville woman had more than blood in her veins when two off-duty police officers stopped the bloodmobile she was driving in Jacksonville Wednesday about 5 p.m. after they said she ran a red light.

Sharon Dunlap, 46, was driving a Florida Georgia Blood Alliance bloodmobile when one of the officers said he smelled alcohol on her breath and that her speech was slurred. She'd been employed by the agency since 1993.

Records indicate she failed a field sobriety test and had a blood alcohol content of 0.11. The level at which a person is considered impaired under Florida law is 0.08.

Charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and running a red light, Dunlap pleaded no contest at her court appearance Thursday and lost her license for six months. She was sentenced to a year of probation and must perform 100 hours of community service.

The bloodmobile was on its way to a blood drive. There were three passengers in the vehicle with Dunlap who said they hadn't noticed anything unusual about her driving. According to the police report, she said she'd stopped drinking about 3 a.m. Tuesday, more than 12 hours before her arrest.

She'd been previously arrested for DUI in 2001. 1-27-06
