Diversified Shoplifting

NEW YORK---A Manhattan woman faces a litany of criminal charges including second degree arson after she allegedly set fire to a rack of clothes at a clothing chain store in order to create a diversion for her shoplifting.

And it worked.

Her mistake was she returned to the store last week.

Savanna Johnson has a record of 59 arrests. When she was arrested Wednesday at the store for shoplifting, a security official recognized her from a surveillance tape he had seen of a April 2005 incident when a woman used a cigarette lighter to set the clothes on fire.

In addition to arson, she's been charged with second degree reckless endangerment and possession of stolen property. Her record reportedly shows she's been arrested throughout the country on charges including shoplifting, drug possession, prostitution and burglary. 1-29-06
