Plattsburgh Doctor Admits To Sex With Patients

PLATTSBURGH---A Plattsburgh doctor who has admitted to having sexual relations with four of his patients has been suspended for at least a year.

Richard Adams, 55, admitted to unethical conduct with four patients between 1990 and 2003 and “admitted guilt to the charge of negligence on at least one occasion”.

The state Board of Professional Medical Conduct issued the sanction of license suspension for 36 months with the first 12 months to be served as an actual suspension and the last 24 months stayed with probation for three years. Adams is also required to submit to a clinical assessment, attend therapy and be evaluated by a physician specializing “in physicians who have engaged in sexual-boundary violations with patients”.

He has to take 100 hours of medical classes each year and if he returns to practice, he would have to have a chaperone present to treat or examine female patients.

His privileges at the CVPH Medical Center have been revoked. 2-22-06
