Officer Impersonation Charged

DELTONA, FLA---A road rage incident has resulted in a volunteer chaplain with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office being charged with impersonating an officer, felony aggravated assault and unlawful use of law enforcement lights.

According to police, a woman motorist inadvertently cut off a pickup being driven on I-4 Sunday by Anthony Alvarez. Alvarez, 40, then allegedly activated blue and red lights to pull them over and pointed a gun at the occupants of the car. A nine millimeter handgun was found in his truck.

Sheriff’s officials said that the lights had not been issued by them and that Alvarez was not authorized to use them as part of his chaplain duties. Alvarez, who also had a sheriff’s office badge and identification card that police confiscated, has been suspended from the chaplain program.
