Home Health Aide Indicted For Raping Disabled Teen

EAST GREENBUSH---A home health aide who was charged in March with sexually abusing a physically and mentally disabled teenager in her care was indicted Friday by a Rensselaer County Grand Jury on rape charges.

Susan McDade, 47, of East Greenbush was charged with first, second and third degree rape, first degree sexual abuse, all felonies, and second degree sexual abuse, sexual misconduct and endangering the welfare of an incompetent person, all misdemeanors. If convicted, she faces up to 25 years in state prison.

She has been free on $5,000 bail since first being arrested and has denied the charges. She will be arraigned this week on the new charges.

She was arrested in March for felony sexual abuse after the teen’s family said the 17-year-old disabled boy’s brother found him in bed with McDade in December at his family’s home.

Although the teen is 17, the age of legal consent in New York State, due to his disability he is incapable of consent. He was born with spinal meningitis and according to his mother, he has the social skills of a five-year-old and mental capacity of a two-year-old.

The Rensselaer County district attorney’s office says there is DNA evidence against McDade. 4-22-06
