TROY---The former PTA president at the Turnpike Elementary School in Lansingburgh will be spending 30 days in the Rensselaer County jail after pleading guilty to stealing monies that were intended for special events for the school's children.
Jeanine Stilson, 30, was convicted of fourth degree grand larceny, a felony, admitting that between March 2 and Oct. 26, 2005, she stole $3,530 from the PTA in cash from a book fair. Prosecutors said she had also forged documents to a company during business with the parents-teachers-students group and had forged the names of two other PTA officers on a check.
Judge Patrick McGrath also sentenced her to complete five years of probation after she completes her jail time.
She resigned as PTA president last November. As part of the plea agreement, Stilson had to repay the money stolen. Her attorney presented payment to the court. 5-25-06
