LAKE COUNTY, FLA---The parents of an inmate at the Lake County Jail have been charged in a bizarre attempt to allegedly hire a hit man to kill their three grandchildren, daughter-in-law and the family's pet dog.
Robert Jackson, 60, and his wife, Versie, 59, were charged with conspiracy to commit murder Tuesday after traveling to a Best Western hotel in Tavares, Fla., allegedly for the purpose of meeting with a hit man, an undercover law enforcement officer, to pay him $100 as a down payment for the murders. The couple was arrested following the exchange of the $100 in cash. Authorities said the rest of the money was to have been paid Tuesday night after the murders had been committed.
The Jacksons were allegedly acting at the request of their son, Jason Jackson, 31, who wanted his family dead. He has been incarcerated since December on multiple counts of sexual battery. His wife and children, the Jackson's grandchildren, were reportedly prosecution witnesses against him. The younger Jackson allegedly arranged the murder-for-hire plan from jail and asked for his parents' assistance in completing the deal.
The elder Jacksons are being held in the Lake County Jail without bond.
