SCHENECTADY---The handicapped woman who reported a Niskayuna doctor for allegedly taking prescription medications from his patients and allegedly selling them on the black market was set on fire in her wheelchair Saturday night by an unknown assailant.
Police are looking for the person who attacked Roseann Wilson, 52, of Shonowee Village by dumping bleach on her and then setting her on fire. She was found by firefighters who were responding to a call of smoke coming from her apartment.
Police said the fire may have been set in her lap. She was found on the floor between her bed and wheelchair, trying to douse the flames. Police said it appeared she had also been punched in the face and may have sustained a broken nose.
She sustained second degree burns and is a patient at Ellis Hospital.
Police have not determined if there is a connection between the attack and the drug case. It appears that the person who attacked Wilson was an acquaintance of hers.
David Hornick, 63, known for making house calls, has been charged with three felony counts of possession of controlled narcotics and a misdemeanor count of possession of stolen property. He has denied the allegations and other patients have risen to his defense.
Police said Hornick was skimming pills from current patients as well as patients who had died. When he was arrested earlier this month in the parking lot of the Eastern Avenue CVS, police said that they found nearly 2,000 pills in the trunk of his car.
Hornick came under suspicion when Wilson reported him for acting strangely. She also said that the pills he was giving her were not controlling her pain. Upon contacting the pharmacy that was handling her prescriptions, she learned that although there were a number of prescriptions in her name, she was not receiving them. Police said that the labels had been removed from the pill containers in Hornick's trunk so they could not be traced. 6-22-06
