LINDENHURST---Dum de dum dum. The dragnet is out by Suffolk County police for the pet owner who endangered the public on Long Island, that's right, Long Island, with an alligator.
Well, at least the net was out to capture the three and half foot long alligator with rather sharp teeth found by a rather surprised homeowner Sunday morning on his front lawn when he went to his newspaper box.
When the gator saw the dude, it scurried into the bushes. Suffolk County police rounded it up with a dog-catching noose after the homeowner pulled the reptile out of the bushes by its tail. Police then taped its snout shut with duct tape.
The Suffolk County ASPCA removed the animal to a nearby pet store for temporary lodging and said they would be investigating the incident because state law prohibits private ownership of alligators and other wild animals. Authorities said the gator was docile and apparently used to being held indicating it probably had been someone's pet. 6-25-06
