TAMPA, FLA---The former treasurer of a campaign committee has pleaded guilty to a wrongful conversion of campaign funds.
Randolph B. Maddox, 42, of Palmetto faces five years in prison, a $250,000 fine, three years of supervised release and a special assessment of $100.
According to the plea agreement, in April of this year Maddox, was treasurer of the Committee to Elect Nancy Detert, a campaign committee formed to nominate and elect a candidate for the House of Representatives. Maddox wrongfully converted more than $90,000 in campaign funds and absconded with that money to South America.
The plea agreement also reflects that Maddox subsequently returned to the United States and returned the converted funds. 7-19-06
