DARLINGTON, WIS---Would you sue your parents?
An Illinois woman has brought suit against her parents, claiming that their negligence caused her to fall in their icy driveway two years ago and break an ankle and injure her left foot and leg.
A federal judge has refused to dismiss the lawsuit and has set a trial date for November to let a jury decide the matter.
Carriel Louah, 25, made a surprise visit to her parents' home in Darlington, Wisconsin in January 2005 for her mother's birthday and to attend a party at a local tavern. The next morning, she slipped and fell in their driveway.
Now she wants more than $75,000 in damages for lost wages and medical bills, claiming that she has a letter from her mother which says that "we should have fixed that damn (gutter) years ago. We have learned we have to take better care of our sidewalks".
Her parents say that their daughter can't prove the driveway was icy or that they had a faulty drainage system. 7-20-06
