Op-Ed - Safe Chat Helps Prevent Unauthorized Access To Children

By Gabriel Luu

I read an article that Tom Chandler wrote in The North Country Gazette about the judge in New York who tossed out the case against Jeffrey Koslow who is also lawyer in New York. Hmmm… based on this judge's logic and ruling, then all the "sting operation" cases against prostitution and drugs should be tossed out too. Right?.....because for prostitution cases, they did not actually solicit a prostitute, they solicit an undercover cop. Right? And for the drugs sting operations, it's the same concept, right? They did not buy drugs from an actual drug dealer, they bought drugs from an undercover officer. Right?

Wow… What kind of laws do we have in New York? And worst yet, what kind of people do we have to enforce these laws? If we are going to ask our law enforcement agencies to conduct these sting operations and to catch these criminals, then we need our judicial system to do their part and prosecute them. Otherwise this is a waste of taxpayer money. Do we really need to have an "actual" child become a victim before we can prosecute these criminals?

The idea of these "sting operations" against online predators is to help "PREVENT" crime against children. But if the New York judicial system is not going to do their part to prosecute these online predators then we (as parents) need to protect our children from them BEFORE they can be harm.

We believe we have a solution that will help PREVENT strangers from reaching our children online. Our solution is to PREVENT unauthorized access to our children! We developed Safe Chat Universal Messenger with Parental Controls to do just that. It is permission-based, password protected and it can not be circumvented. In other words, if you don't have permission to chat with the child, you can't - period! Parents have complete control. Nothing like our program has existed before. Instant Message protection, surfing protection, foul language protection and password protected Parental Controls that can't be circumvented.

Safe Chat is NOT filtering or monitoring software, as those do not prevent kids from chatting with strangers. By the time parents review the monitoring report, their child has already chatted with strangers.

We are currently working with the Tampa police department, San Diego ICAC team, Miami FBI-SOS team, North Port PD, Palm Bay PD, Denton Texas PD, and municipal government agencies in Indiana to help parents in their community protect children from online predators.

Safe Chat has recently been featured on many TV stations nationwide. For a listing and news clip in your area, click here. Please visit our website at http://www.safechat.org where you can find out more about Safe Chat.

We need to educate our parents about the dangers and the steps they can take to prevent online predators from harming their children. We are currently seeking to work with parenting service organizations, advocate groups through our Outreach Program whereby we would work with these organization in an effort to bring awareness and educate parents in your community about how to protect their children from online sexual predators. We believe that prevention begin at homes with proper parenting in today's new internet world. 8-14-06

EDITOR'S NOTE: Mr. Luu is from Palm Harbor, Fla. The Appellate Division, Second Department, reversed the conviction and dismissed the indictment of Jeffrey Kozlow for sending sexually explicit e-mails to a minor because he didn't include any pictures in the messages.
