Geisel Pleads Not Guilty to Sex Charges

The former teacher at Christian Brothers Academy pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Albany County Court to three counts of third degree rape and a count of performing a criminal sexual act in connection with alleged sexual encounters with a 16-year-old student in May.

Sandra “Beth” Geisel, 42, of Latham, was indicated by an Albany County Grand Jury on Friday. She is accused of having sex with the student on three times---one at her Latham home, once at his Ravena home and once in the press box at the CBA campus.

The charges are all felonies and if convicted, Geisel could face 1 1/3 to four years in state prison on each count.

Geisel will have until Nov. 1 to submit motions to the court. She is currently incarcerated in the Albany County Jail where she was remanded after she was arrested in August and charged with driving while intoxicated.

Geisel had been free on the sex charges on $20,000 bail but her DWI arrest violated the terms of her release and her bail was revoked. She has remained in jail since that time.

Now that the indictment has been handed up and Ms. Geisel has been arraigned, it is expected that plea bargain negotiations will begin. 9-14-05
