Schuylerville Teacher Arrested For Crack Possession

SCHUYLERVILLE-The president of the Schuylerville Teachers Association has been charged by Albany City Police with seventh degree possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, after being found in possession of a glass crack pipe and small amount of crack cocaine.

Joseph C. Coryea, 38, of 18 Hawthorne Ave., Albany, has taught French at theSchuylerville Junior-Senior High School for the past 10 years. He was arrested July 22 at the rear of 92 Central Ave., Albany. If convicted, Coryea could face up to a year in jail.

According to School Superintendent Leon Reed, Coryea has no disciplinary record in the school district and is an "outstanding, excellent teacher". He has served as the adviser for the mock trial club.

It is unknown if disciplinary action will be taken against Coryea. The Schuylerville Board of Education is scheduled to meet Thursday, Aug. 31.
