NYS Senate Honors Tpr. Longobardo

ALBANY---The New York State Senate has unanimously passed a legislative resolution honoring the life and achievements of fallen New York State Trooper Joseph Anthony Longobardo of Middle Grove, Saratoga County, who tragically succumbed to wounds suffered recently during the manhunt for Ralph "Bucky" Phillips in southwestern New York.

"Each and every day, our law enforcement officials put their lives on the line to safeguard our communities," said Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno. "Joseph Longobardo made the ultimate sacrifice, and is truly a hero in every sense of the word. His dedication and bravery in the face of danger serve as a strong testament to his commitment to protecting innocent lives. We owe Trooper Longobardo and Trooper Donald Baker, who was critically wounded during the manhunt, an enormous debt of gratitude for their heroic service, and our thoughts and prayers are with both of their families during this difficult time."

While working as a New York State Trooper, Joseph A. Longobardo was also currently serving with the 109th Airlift Wing as a Master Sergeant in the Security Forces Squadron at Stratton Air Force Base in Scotia. While serving, he participated in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Noble Eagle. He was also a member of the United States Air Force Security Forces Phoenix Raven, a unit that responds to critical incidents worldwide.

In addition to his parents, Anthony and Gayle Longobardo, Trooper Longobardo is survived by his loving wife of four years, Teri E. Longobardo; his 13 month-old son, Louis M. Longobardo; and his sister, Dawn Longobardo.

He was laid to rest in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
