Cop Pinched For Kiddie Porn Possession

Tarrytown---A police officer with the Tarrytown Police Department has been suspended after he was arrested last week by state police and charged with felony counts of promoting a sexual performance by a child and possessing a sexual performance by a child.

Anthony A. Rypka Jr., 38, of Tarrytown was arraigned in Greenburgh Town Court and bail set at $15,000. He faces a maximum of seven years in state prison if convicted.

America Online (AOL) the internet service provider, during routine electronic scanning of email attachments, detected the coding for a known child pornographic image registered with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. After identifying the email account associated with the attachment, AOL then notified the New York State Police and Investigators from the Westchester County District Attorneys office.

A search warrant was executed at Rypka's home and two computers and a thumb drive were confiscated. An image of child pornography was found on the detachable drive that matched the image sent through AOL, prosecutors said. 9-17-06
