TROY---John "Jack" Carroll, convicted of sexual abuse as a result of what his attorney and family members say was prosecutorial misconduct by Rensselaer District Attorney Patricia DeAngelis, will be the featured guest this weekend on Justice Now, a TV show which airs on MyTV4Albany.
Jack is currently incarcerated at the Great Meadow Correctional Facility in Comstock, Washington County. Carl Strock, columnist with the Schenectady Gazette, conducted the interview with Jack inside prison several weeks ago. The half hour program, edited and produced by former WRGB-TV 6 news anchor Ernie Tetrault, will be seen twice this weekend on Cable Channel 4 (over the air channel 15) WNYA, at 9 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 23 and 24.
The title of the program is "Waiting for Justice".
It is the first interview that Carroll has done since he was first incarcerated 8 ½ years ago.
Carroll, 49, a former salesman, was convicted in December of 1997 for the rape and sexual abuse of his then 13-year-old stepdaughter. On appeal, the New York State Court of Appeals dismissed the rape convictions and ordered a new trial on the sexual abuse counts.
Maintaining his innocence, he refused an offer to plea guilty in exchange for time served and opted to go to trial.
He was convicted a second time on the sexual abuse counts in January, 2001 and remains incarcerated in state prison. DeAngelis, who was assistant district attorney during the period of Carroll's two trials, prosecuted both trials.
He has exhausted his appeals at the state level and has moved to the federal courts for relief.

Despite being locked up, Carroll reveals he has a very warm and
extensive family life. His wife, Mary, visits him just about every weekend and talks to him by phone every night. Like all inmates' wives and family members, Mary Carroll pays outrageously high phone bills due to the sweetheart deal Verizon/MCI has with the state.
The rates under this contract Verizon/MCI has with the state charges family members 630% more than typical consumer rates to talk with loved ones in New York State Department of Correctional Services (DOCS) prisons. New York State gets a 57.5% kickback on the phone company's profits.

While in prison Carroll has earned certification as a paralegal and works every day in the prison law library helping other inmates with their various legal problems. During the course of the interview Carroll shares with Strock some interesting and compelling insights into the prison and parole systems.
