Ex-Teacher Geisel Expected In Court Monday On Sex Charges

Albany County prosecutors are staying mum about reports that a plea bargain may have been reached in the case of former Christian Brothers Academy teacher Sandra "Beth" Geisel, charged with having sex with a 16-year-student at the Catholic school in Colonie.

Geisel, 42, estranged wife of a prominent Albany banker, is scheduled to appear in Albany City Court Monday before judge Stephen Herrick. She was indicted by an Albany County Grand Jury on Sept. 9 on three felony counts of third degree rape and one felony count of performing a criminal sexual act.

She could receive a maximum of four years in state prison on each count but according to published reports, a deal could be in the works which would result in her receiving less than a year in jail rather than state prison.

A press release issued by the DA's office announcing Geisel's court appearance said that "there is a possibility that this office will have something to say about the case shortly thereafter".

She is accused of having sex with the student on three occasions in May, once at her Latham home, once at his Ravena home and once in the press box at the CBA football field.

Geisel is currently incarcerated at the Albany County Jail where she has been since her August arrest on drunk driving charges. She had been free on the sex charges on $20,000 bail but her arrest for driving while intoxicated violated the terms of her release and her bail was revoked.

She was fired from CBA in mid-June after she was allegedly caught in a parked car with a 17-year-old student. No charges were brought as a result of that incident as the age of consent in New York State is 17. 9-26-05
