DMV Fees To Increase Oct. 1

If you're planning on making changes regarding the title of your vehicle, you'd be wise to do it before Oct. 1.

Fees of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles will increase Oct. 1. Titling your car will increase from $10 to $50 and obtaining a new photo document for all licenses and permits requiring a photo ID will cost you double.

The title fees must be paid when any vehicle from 1973 to the present changes ownership. Duplicate title fees will increase from $10 to $20.

The fees were increased by the state Legislature as part of the last state budget.

The current DMV fees, followed by the new fee, is as follows:

Photo document - $5 to $10; original title - $10 to $50; duplicate title - $10 to $20; mobile/manufactured home title - $25 to $125; electronic search - $5 to $7; manual search - $6 to $10; dealer/transporter application - $25 to $37.50; dealer/transporter registration - $300 to $450; dealer issued plates - $50 per box to $125 per box; salvage vehicle inspections - $100 to $150.

More information can be obtained by contacting your county's DMV office.

Last years fees for boats and ATVs were increased.

Most of the revenue goes to the state but each county retains 12.7% of DMV transactions. It's been estimated that the state will realize an additional $335,000 annually from the hikes. 9-27-05
