LETTERS TO THE EDITOR - Spa County GOP Chastised

Editor, The North Country Gazette:

It's a sad day when the Republican party, my party, would stoop to the levels that they have just to maintain control of a town judgeship. And, if these actions are representative of your tactics in general, I'd be frightened at what lies just beneath the covers of the party, just to maintain control of Saratoga County.

I'm still proud to be an American where Constitutional Rights, civil rights, and the law are still revered, and the blatant violations of those rights and laws aren't supposed to happen to our citizens... unless you live in Saratoga County where it appears to be pervasive, encouraged and even rewarded. I'm even more proud now to be an ex-Republican, for the principles you display to your constituents have made a mockery of your party.

Shame on you, and I'm truly sorry for Saratoga County, a beautiful place that deserves so much more. Please visit the following site:

NY Rights Council

Editor's Note: Mr. Rohling is referring to the sudden resignation of Ballston town justice Ken Kissinger just weeks before the general election, allegedly because his employment has resulted in a transfer from the area. His resignation is effective Dec. 26. His term ends Dec. 31 and his name will appear on the ballot Tuesday, Nov. 8. Former Republican town justice Cynthia Amrhein has announced her intent to seek the position as a write-in candidate but if Kissinger receives the most votes, the town board will appoint an individual to fill the position. Just in case there are some who don't believe that politics play any role in Saratoga County courts, among Saratoga County GOP officials is Jennifer Scarano, chairwoman of the Saratoga Springs City GOP Committee. Scarano, whose husband is Jerry Scarano, Saratoga County Court judge, is vice chairman for special events of the county Republican Committee and first vice president of the Saratoga County Women's Republican Club. She was previously Wilton Republican chairwoman when she and the judge lived there. She is employed by Republican Assemblyman Willis H. Stephes (R-Brewster), the minority leader pro tempore. She was chief of staff for retired Assemblyman Robert d'Andrea, R-Saratoga Springs. 11-07-05
