SUFFOLK COUNTY---A 46-year-old Huntington town building department employee is charged with second-degree grand larceny for allegedly stealing more than $73,000 in town permit revenue over the past four years.
Suzette Pinckney-Black of 64 West 19th Street in Huntington Station pleaded not guilty at her appearance in first district court Monday afternoon. District Attorney Thomas Spota said Ms. Pickney-Black wrote receipts for lesser amounts of the cash or checks she received from taxpayers for permits. Evidence collected by Governmental Corruption Bureau detectives indicates the defendant "often delayed deposit of the checks she accepted, or changed the amount of the check payment, or altered records reflecting the town's cash deposit records," Spota said.
Spota said Huntington town residents and contractors who paid their building permit fees by check but have not received confirmation the town cashed or deposited their payment are encouraged to call the district attorney's office at (631) 853- 4626.
Ms. Pinckney-Black was released on her own recognizance. She is scheduled to return to district court Dec.13. 11-21-06
