FORT MYERS, FLA---A former participant in the Big Brother-Big Sisters Program in Southwest Florida has been arrested on child pornography charges.
Ronald Scott Lebowitz, 47, of Fort Myers has been arrested by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and charged with six counts of sexual performance by a child (related to the child pornography) and five counts of transmission of pornography by electronic device or equipment. Each charge is a third-degree felony.
The FDLE Computer Crimes Center began its investigation into Lebowitz' activities after a separate investigation revealed information that Lebowitz was allegedly trading child pornography via e-mail with a suspect in Escambia County. Agents went undercover and made contact with Lebowitz where agents say he traded more child pornography pictures with them. Agents served a search warrant on Lebowitz's residence and recovered his computer. Agents were able to recover multiple photographs depicting young boys involved in various sex acts.
Lebowitz had been a Big Brother in the Southwest Florida area for approximately 12 years up until the search warrant was issued this past spring. He is no longer involved with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.
Agents believe there could be more victims in this case and agents are urging anyone who may have come into contact with Lebowitz or has information about this case to call FDLE Special Agent Steve Uebelacker at 1-800-407-4880.
Lebowitz was booked into the Lee County Jail on a $30,000 bond. 11-28-05
