PEF Aiding Families of Parolees

ALBANY-- Members of the New York State Public Employees Federation (PEF) will continue a holiday tradition of making this season a little brighter for needy families and children by fulfilling wish lists. Union members and their families will wrap gifts and assemble holiday baskets of food for the families of parolees who have demonstrated an honest effort to transition back into the community as responsible, law-abiding citizens.

A gift-wrapping party will be held from 11a.m. to noon, Saturday, Dec. 3 at PEF Headquarters, 1168-70 Troy-Schenectady Road (Route 7 in Latham). Families receiving the gift baskets are carefully selected by parole officers assigned to their cases. The parole officers, who are also PEF members, will deliver the gift baskets to the families before Christmas.

PEF also gives toys to the U.S. Marine Corps "Toys for Tots" program and St Margaret's Center for Children in Albany.

PEF is the second-largest state-employee union representing 53,000 professional, scientific and technical employees, including 1100 parole officers.

For more information, please call Darcy Wells, PEF director of public relations, at 518-785-1900, ext. 277 or 518-859-1274. 11-30-05
