ALBANY---Lt. Governor Mary Donohue will kick-off another festive holiday season in New York State on Sunday, Dec. 4 at the 2005 Holiday Tree Lighting and Fireworks Festival. This holiday tradition will take place at the Empire State Plaza in Albany. The festivities will get underway at 2 p.m., with activities inside and out, commencing with the official lighting of the trees at 5:15 p.m., followed by a spectacular fireworks show.
The Holiday Tree Lighting and Fireworks Festival, sponsored by I Love New York, will take place from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Inside the Empire State Plaza, there will be holiday music by Sweet Cider (www.sweetcidermusic.net), holiday craft vendors, story telling and holiday arts and crafts for the kids. Outside, on the ice skating rink will be demonstrations and lessons by the Over the Edge Skating School, a skate around with the Union College Men and Women's Hockey Team and much more.
The donation of New York State's holiday trees has become a time-honored tradition. Each year the trees are donated by generous New Yorkers who do so with pride in knowing their tree will stand tall as one of the official New York State Holiday Trees.
The Empire State Plaza's Holiday Tree is a 35-foot spruce tree and was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Keith Bailey of Cohoes, donated in memory of Mr. Bailey's grandparents, Willis and Viola Sanders. The Holiday Tree placed at the Capitol in East Capitol Park is a 30-foot spruce tree and was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Savage of Albany in memory of Mr. Savage's parents, Richard and Kathleen Savage.
