Commentary - Killer Of The Year

People Magazine has named Michael Schiavo as one of the top "newsmakers of the year" in its Dec. 26 edition.

Well, maybe rightfully so. After all, as the world watched, he got away with judicial homicide----so far. That's news.

Accompanying the blurb in People is a picture of Michael Schiavo sitting dejectedly on Terri's grave----dejected that it took so long to achieve his goal---dejected that he had to spend all the malpractice money in order to kill his wife---dejected that so far he hasn't made any real money from his "ordeal".

The article reads:

"Michael Schiavo's life has settled down since doctors removed the feeding tube from his brain damaged wife, Terri, on March 18."

"After their long legal battle, he and Terri's parents, Robert Sr. and Mary Schindler, may never speak again."

"But Schiavo, 42, who works as a nursing supervisor in Pinellas County, Fla, is still angry at the way his personal family drama climaxed on the national stage - and the way the battle over Terri's fate set off a stunning display of political histronics, including an emergency session of Congress, that landed him squarely in the middle of the culture wars."

"Schiavo, who according to his brother Brian, received death threats, will tell his side of the ordeal in a memoir, Terri: The Truth, which is due out in the spring. He has also started a political action committee."

"There is more important stuff going on in the world right now, says Brian, "but he's not going to let people forget how he was vilified so it doesn't happen again to someone else."

Sounds to us more like a paid advertisement for Schiavo's book which will be about as believable as the phony college degree he said he received from Bucks County Community College and the numerous contradictions and proven lies that permeate his sworn depositions and testimony under oath in his years-long quest to kill his wife.

Wonder how much Derek Newton, Democratic political consultant and spinmaster had to pay People to include Michael Schiavo in its pages. The top newsmaker of the year was Terri, not Michael, forced to become the poster child for the euthanasia movement, forced to die a heinous death by dehydration while Florida statues clearly prohibit the withholding of food and water from any individual. George Greer, Michael Schiavo and George Felos didn't follow the law, they didn't follow Terri's wishes. They followed the money trail.

Michael Schiavo bemoaned politicians supposedly capitalizing on Terri. And, he is doing….? Rather hypocritical, don't you think? He's still trying to line his pockets, even in her death. It's all about Michael, no one else.

People says that Mikey and Terri's parents may never speak again. They haven't spoken since Valentine's Day of 1993---coincidentally the birthday of Mikey's concubine Jodi Centonze---when Michael Schiavo and Bob Schindler got into an argument and Michael threatened Terri's father that they'd never see Terri again. And Michael Schiavo, the husband from hell, did his damnest to carry forth that promise for the next 12 years, spending the money earmarked for Terri's rehabilitation to instead cause her death and virtually shut the Schindlers out of their daughter's life.

Brian Schiavo says that Mikey's "not going to let people forget how he was vilified so it doesn't happen again to someone else". See---there's that vendetta mindset of the Schiavo's---that's what it's always been about---revenge, hate and greed and that brings us right back to the night of Feb. 25, 1990 and how Terri sustained the brain damage.

The People article carries a lot of misrepresentation. Doctors didn't remove Terri's feeding tube on March 18---death judge George Greer and Michael Schiavo did as Terri valiantly and desperately struggled to say that she wanted to live. Terri wasn't terminal, she had a will to live and a right to live.

A nursing supervisor in Pinellas County? Well, he's a nurse in the inmate division at the county jail, hired by the judge's good bud and employer of his concubine's mother, but we don't think he's any supervisor. In fact, considering that county employee policy probably prohibits political activity, maybe he'll have to decide to give up his career as political antagonist in his efforts to get even with Tom DeLay, Rick Santorum and the Bush Brothers.

People says Mike landed squarely in the middle of the "culture wars". Killing one's wife, a disabled woman has nothing to do with "culture wars". It's not right now nor has it ever been right. It's not part of our culture to kill the disabled and vulnerable because you think they're a burden to the system.

People says that Michael Schiavo has "started a political action committee". Well, that's another misrepresentation. Derek Newton has started a political action committee. Derek Newton registered the domain name for TerriPAC, handles the website. Michael Schiavo's name does not appear on any of the filings with the Federal Election Commission and despite it being required, thus far, treasurer Brian Schiavo, who is responsible for filing reports and the paperwork, hasn't registered the PAC with the Florida Division of Elections.

Apparently Michael Schiavo thinks he can ignore the FEC rules and regulations in regard to filings and accountability just like he did the state guardianship law. Millions of People are not going to forget what Michael Schiavo did to his wife and the manner in which he did it. He's no martyr.

He was a newsmaker this year, for sure----just wait til 2006. 12-21-05
