Florida Courts Conducting Survey

TALLAHASSEE---Do you feel that Pinellas County probate court judge George W. Greer acted properly in the Terri Schiavo case?

How do you feel about the judicial actions and rulings of Judge Brandt Downey, Crockett Farnell, John Lenderman and Gregory Holder?

Do you feel that Florida courts treat the elderly and non-elderly alike? Are persons with disabilities treated equally to those without disabilities? Have you seen or experienced unfair treatment of individuals in Florida courts based on their disability, their age, their sexual orientation, their race?

The Florida Supreme Court's Standing Committee on Fairness and Diversity is conducting a survey regarding "Perceptions of Fairness in the Florida Courts".

The public is invited to participate in the statewide surveys. Participants are asked to complete only the survey that matches their situation. Surveys must be completed no later than Jan. 31.

Opinion surveys are available for Florida judges at http://www.flcourts.org/UltimateSurvey/Surveys/TakeSurvey.aspx?s=EA7BCAD3215D40298FF6FF74A6351D3B Other surveys are available for Florida court staff and staff of court-related agencies, jurors in Florida, parties involved in legal cases in Florida and for Florida attorneys. The survey forms can be found at www.flcourts.org

Among the questions for Florida judges are if Florida courts apply laws as written, do judges show courtesy/respect to people using Florida courts, and if procedures for jury selection in Florida are applied fairly.

There are sections for comment on the surveys. Participants are invited to comment if they are "aware of any systemic or structural aspects of the court system that adversely affect one class or group of persons….including but not limited to functional and operational factors, application of the law, the opportunity for and level of legal representation and architectural, communication, language, economic, technological or procedural barriers. 12-26-05
