ALBANY---In the final days of his tenure, Gov. George E. Pataki has made sure vacancies in the Appellate Divisions of state Supreme Court are filled by Republicans instead of allowing Governor-elect and Democrat Eliot Spitzer fill the judicial seats.
Justices Erin M. Peradotto, Eugene M. Fahey and Robert J. Lunn have been named to serve as additional justices of the Appellate Division, Fourth Department.
Pataki also designated Justices Ruth C. Balkin, William E. McCarthy, Edward D. Carni and Thomas A. Dickerson as additional justices of the Appellate Division, Second Department.
Justice Peradotto has served as a Supreme Court Justice, Eighth Judicial District since 2004. Prior to assuming the bench, she was engaged in the private practice of law, specializing in personal injury litigation and was an Assistant Attorney General for the New York State Attorney General. She received her bachelor's degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1980 and her law degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law in 1984.
Justice Fahey has served as a Supreme Court Justice, Eighth Judicial District since 1997. From 1995 through 1996, he served as a Buffalo City Court Judge. Prior to that, he was engaged in the private practice of law and served as a law clerk. He received his bachelor's degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1974 and his law degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law in 1984. Justice Fahey also received a Master of Arts degree in 1998.
Justice Lunn has served as a Supreme Court Justice, Seventh Judicial District since 1995 and was designated to serve on the Appellate Division Justice, Second Department in August of 2005. From 1991 through 1994, he served as a Penfield Town Justice. Prior to assuming the bench, he was engaged in the private practice of law and served as a Monroe County Assistant District Attorney. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Rochester in 1969 and his law degree from Cornell University Law School in 1974.
Justice Balkin was elected in November of 2004 as a Supreme Court Justice in the Tenth Judicial District. From 1994 to 2004, she served as a Nassau County Family Court Judge. Prior to that, she served as an Executive Assistant and Counsel in the Town of Hempstead and she was engaged in the private practice of law. She received her bachelor's degree from Adelphi University in 1973 and her law degree from St. John's University School of Law in 1976.
Justice McCarthy was elected in November of 2004 as a Supreme Court Justice in the Third Judicial District. Prior to assuming the bench, he served as a Senior Assistant Counsel to the Governor, as a law clerk to Justices Edward Sheridan, Joseph Harris and Edward Conway and had also been engaged in the private practice of law. He received his bachelor's degree from the State University College of New York at Potsdam in 1985 and his law degree from Albany Law School of Union University in 1988.
Justice Carni was elected in November of 2001 as a Supreme Court Justice in the Fifth Judicial District. From 1995 to 2001, he served as a Syracuse City Court Judge. Prior to assuming the bench, he was engaged in the private practice of law. He received his bachelor's degree from the State University of New York College at Cortland in 1982 and his law degree from Whittier College School of Law in 1985.
Justice Dickerson has served as a Supreme Court Justice, Ninth Judicial District since 2003. From 2000 to 2002, he served as a Westchester County Court Judge/Acting Family Court Judge. From 1994 to 1999, he served as a Yonkers City Court Judge. Since 1999, he has served as a Captain for the New York Guard. Prior to assuming the bench, he was engaged in the private practice of law. He received his bachelor's degree from Colgate University in 1969, his Master's in Business from the Johnson Graduate School of Business and Public Administration, Cornell University in 1973 and his law degree from Cornell Law School, Cornell University in 1973.
