FDLE To Offer Cyber Security Seminar

TALLAHASEE--As you begin the New Year, why not adopt a resolution to improve your cyber-security? According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, an astonishing 93% of the Florida respondents to a Symantec/Harris survey said they have experienced privacy intrusions online. Viruses, worms, and Trojan horses have spread across the Internet infecting countless computers, ranging from your home, to businesses, even to major corporations.

In addition, scammers last year sent more than 150,000 "phishing" emails to millions of computer users worldwide. These scams lure users into divulging sensitive identity and credit card information, resulting in the loss of billions of dollars. So it is more important than ever to take steps to keep yourself safe online, such as:

Installing anti-virus software and keep it up to date

Keeping your personal information private

Learning to recognize fraudulent e-mails

In 2006 the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will be offering the award-winning C-SAFE seminar throughout the state, beginning in Tallahassee on Jan. 17 and 18.

C-SAFE: Cyber-Security Awareness for Everyone provides citizens and businesses with information to help protect them from the dangers of the Internet while teaching valuable lessons on securing their computers. Topics include using safe e-mail practices, preventing identify theft, recognizing scams, and securing wireless networks.

FDLE encourages computer users throughout Florida to visit www.secureflorida.org to learn more cyber-tips and to register for a C-SAFE class in their area. 12-31-05
