BRATTLEBORO, VT---An employee of the state comptroller's office has been charged with felony lewd and lascivious conduct after a witness reported that he was naked and masturbating while riding a gondola at Stratton Mountain Resort.
William N. Barrett III, 46, of Albany, was also charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession after police found a glass pipe and container of marijuana in his pocket when they arrested him.
Barrett entered a plea of not guilty in Brattleboro District Court Tuesday.
A witness says that on Dec. 15, when he went past a gondola carrying Barrett he saw him standing up in the enclosed car masturbating. He recorded the number of the gondola car and reported the incident to a member of the ski patrol.
When Barrett's car arrived at the bottom of the hill, he was fully clothed. Police said he told them he had taken off his jacket and shirt "because it was a nice day".
Barret is a data processing supervisor in the state comptroller's office.
